Hanukkah may already be officially over this year (November 28 to December 06), but doesn’t mean you have to stop celebrating! A thick slice of this Layered Apple Cake a la mode dusted with Apple Powder and served with Apple Jelly is just the thing to keep the party going!
Had a great time taking in the view, food, and brews on this “field trip” to Cincinnati, Ohio. Of course Cincinnati chili is a must; with great traditional options in Skyline and Gold Star. When the rooftop is open, be sure to check out the great rooftop bar on Rhinegeist brewery, offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding murals (and if you missed the chili elsewhere, grab some by OTR). Braxton Cincinnati is a great stop to grab a beer and lift one to life, while Brewdog Cincinnati proved itself to be a relaxing place to grab a bite to eat and sample some of their brews on draft.

If you’re in a hurry and looking for a quick and flavorful meal, a slightly spicy stir fry might be just what you need. Cooking over high heat in a wok makes fast work of cooking the meal, and the mild spice tastes a bit hotter when paired with a hoppy beer to complement the dish!

When on a “field trip” to St. Louis, Missouri, a Budweiser Brewery experience tour is an obvious stop to learn more about the history and production of this emblematic brew. Highlights of the campus include: the historic Clydesdale Stables and their famous inhabitants, the iconic beer delivery wagons, the Beechwood Aging Cellars, the Brewhouse, the modern packaging facility, and sampling fresh product in the biergarten.
This apple, bacon, and cheddar pizza is a great seasonal meal for Autumn. While apple pizza might sound unusual, it’s actually quite good; the sweetness from the in season apple slices blends well with the salty richness of the bacon and the melted cheddar holds it all together; Served with a delightfully dark stout to complement the light char on the pizzas bottom.

For this Kansas City, Missouri “field trip”, Kansas City BBQ at Arthur Bryant’s was a must, followed by a visit (under the shadow of the famous smoke stack) to Boulevard Brewing Co’s Tours & Recreation Center to savor some fresh brews, then to KC Beir Co.’s Bierhalle & Biergarten for Leberkase and some Pfefferjager & Landjager.
If you have any unripe green tomatoes in the garden and the weather is starting to get chilly in your area, one way to put them to good use is to make a batch of green tomato relish to can (or freeze) for later use. It’s a great way to enjoy the last of the garden tomatoes, and a great chance to cook with beer!
